Welcome to HomeFresh News!

Its been some time between issues of our fortnightly newsletter!! We'd like to apologise for the disruption but we felt it was necessary.

We wanted to get our backend right before we sent out more newsletters. There was a problem with duplicate emails which meant some customers were getting several copies at once. If that was you, please accept our apologies!  Now that we've upgraded our email systems that shouldn't happen again. But if for some strange reason there are any problems then please let use know so we can fix it and make sure it doesn't happen again.

Lots of things have been happening in the time since we last wrote. Read on to find out more...

Q&A - Is Organic Food Really Better for You?

There's been a lot of debate about this recently. You might have seen the recent articles in the media arguing that the chemical intake of conventional products over organic food is negligible.

While that may be true for one conventional apple compared to one organic apple or one conventional carrot compared to one organic carrot.  It over simplifies matters to compare individual items.

You would need to compare gram for gram to get a true breakdown as organic produce is often smaller than conventional items.

Also eating organic food isn't about a quick fix but rather is about combating the cumulative effect of consuming chemicals over many years.

There is no doubt that eating organic foods reduces the intake of chemicals into the body.  However, you may not see this difference in a week or a month.  The differences are more noticeable over a year and even more over 10 years of organic food consumption.

Chemicals used on food stay in the body and, over time, weaken the body's immune system.  While you can rinse off the pesticides on the surface of many conventional foods, the real issue is the systemic absorption of chemicals into our foods.

For example, an apple tree is sprayed with pesticides to keep the produce looking good.  But there are also chemicals used on the soil and absorbed by the apple tree through its roots.  This means that there are chemicals within every apple, not just on the outer skin.

This is why farms that want to become certified organic have to abstain from using chemicals for several years before they can be approved.  If it was just a case of stopping the use of sprayable chemicals, the process would be dramatically faster.

Supplier Spotlight - Organix

Organix is a UK company with a diverse product range of organic food for babies, toddlers and children. You won't find any ingredients listed on their packaging that you don't recognise and wonder what on earth it is.  They also don't add processed sugars, thickeners, processing aids and unnecessary fillers to their food either.

Organix was founded in 1991 by Lizzie Vann, an organic farmer who lives in Dorset and who has also produced a popular cookbook with Daphne Razazan called 'Organic Baby and Toddler Cookbook'.  Lizzie was awarded an MBE for services to the organic food industry in 2000.

We've added a few of their products to our range.  You'll find many of them in the Organic >> Kids Snacks and Organic >> Baby Products sections of our website.

Two popular Organix products worth a look are:

Organic Carrot Stix
